Will Orbi AC300 work with a C3700 N600 Modem Router?
I have a C3700 N600 Modem Router and would like to add the Orbi AC300 router. Do I need to set up the C3700 as a modem only? Or, can I just connect the Orbi directly to the C3700?
You can simply connect the Orbi to the N600, but it is recommended that you do more than that.
- Turn off the N600 WiFi. You do not want it interfering with the Orbi WiFi (competing for channels & bandwidth).
- Set it to be a "modem only" (not a modem/router) Although it works "most of the time" to have two routers back-to-back, there are a number of specific situations which simply do not work when there are two routers. Best to avoid the problem from the outset.
You must keep the N600 because the Orbi is not a cable modem. Without the N600, the Orbi will not function at all. (When you look at the back of the Orbi, there is no coax connector to plug the cable feed into.)
