Are the model designators on your M5's MR5100-1TLAUS acording to the product label - regardless if unlocked by a third-party? In this case, the product registration (these can't be registered on https://my.netgear.com/ !) as well as the warranty and DoA service is handled by Telstra.

If this applies to the your friend's DoA unit, too: The warranty service must be taken care by Telstra resp. the vendor.
