Can I install firmware not meant for my router? (VEGN2610)

I have a VEGN2610 router which comes with firmware from my ISP (https://www.netgear.com/service-providers/products/telco/gateways/vegn2610.aspx).

However, my router came with the firmware 1.0.0.27 and worked with no problems, but once my ISP called me and updated my firmware to 1.0.0.35 hell broke loose especially in gaming (hiccups left and right).

My question is, since I cannot rollback my software especially in this router, is it possible that I install netgear genie firmware meant for another router and my router would still function normally? If anyone knows how I can actually force a rollback, I'd also try that.

    Hello Ivankhoury

No you cannot install firmware from a different skew on this device. But if you can find the older firmware you can roll back to that.

"...since I can't rollback especially on this router..."

I do have the previous firmware, but I have already mentioned that I cannot rollback especially in this router. When I try flashing the old firmware, it will warn me "You are installing an older version" but there is no 'Continue Anyway' button or anything, it just says 'Return'
