Ethernet Standby option not present on firmware NTG9X50C_12.05.05.12

Hi! I've found a frustrating bug with the Nighthawk M1. After updating from NTG9X50C_12.05.05.00 to NTG9X50C_12.05.05.12

When I go from .00 to .12, Eithernet standby disappears. The dropdown is still there, but the options within it are not. Also, if I export (backup) the config file on .00 I can see that there are lines to configure power settings, such as power.standby.ethernet=120

If I backup the config file on .12, all of these lines are gone.

I even went to inspect the HTML on one of the updated Nighthawks and verified that.

(See the attached picture, HTML-Examples.png to see what I'm talking about)
                    <option value="0">Disabled</option>
                    <option value="120">2 minutes</option>

are not present, as they were in .00

Even more interesting, I don't think this is universally a problem with the .12 firmware, as I have another MR1100 that is running the .12 firmware, where the Eithernet standby options still exist.

To try and resolve this, I have so far tried:

  • Resetting the hotspot once from the admin interface
  • Resetting the hotspot once via the physical pinhole reset switch under the battery door
  • Putting the hotspot into IP Passthrough mode (This did not cause the eithernet port to remain on, or bring the options back)
  • Taking the hotspot back out of IP Passthrough mode (also did not make the options come back, or disable standby)
  • Physically copying the dropdown options from a Nighthawk running .12 with the options present and pasting them into a hotspot upgraded to .12 without the options present, and the clicking submit.
    • After this, and after clicking disable before clicking submit, I downloaded the config file from the web interface and confirmed that there were still no eithernet port config lines. I also confirmed that, if I leave the port disconnected for a few minutes, I do still have to press the power button to wake it back up, after plugging a device in, before it will bring the link up.
  • Backing up a config from an MR1100 running .12 with  the eithernet standby dropdown menu options present and restoring it to an MR1100 running .12 without the standby dropdown options present (this didn't work either(

At this point, if there is a way to JTAG these and force a copy of .12 with  the dropdown options present...I'm all for it. Likewise, if there's a way to revert back to an earlier firmware revision, and let it try updating again, I'm all for that as well.

Currently, I've tried updating two out of a few new Nighthawks I just got, and both have this bug after updating. This makes me worry that I'm going to lose this feature on all of them, and makes me worry about future firmware builds for my existing, currently working, nighthawks.

Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated. My use case is using these for backup uplinks at remote sites...which doesn't do me any good if I lock these behind server room doors and the eithernet ports shut off 2 minutes after no traffic is passed.

It appears that I can only attach one file to this post, so I'll stick with the screenshot....I do have 3 different config files I'd like to share with any Netgear employee willing to assist as well (1 good config from .00, one bad congif from a .12 modem, and 1 good config from another one running .12)

Thank you times 100 for any help you can provide! :smileyhappy:

  • Bump.

I found a KB from netgear that this may have been resolved in a higher firmware version, but that doesn't appear to be an OTA update for me....any help on upgading to a higher version than what is available through OTA updates would be greatly appreciated.

(I also found that standby seems to disable itself when the battery is removed, but I'd *like* to keep the battery in the device, if someone can instruct me on forcing a firmware upgrade)
