Firmware update on MR5100

I have what I believe to be a hobbled AT&T MR5100. I have attached a screenshot of the settings screen. Pretty sure the empty selection should not be there. I am trying to update the firmware and continue to get an error "There was a problem checking for updates, please try again later". There is no option to update software when logged in http://192.168.1.1. 

I did download the Netgear Mobile App for Android however it can not find the router either.

 I also tried a factory reset but that button with in the battery compartment does not work ether.

I did buy the unit new from a third party.
