How to connect Nighthawk MR6110 wifi hotspot using ethernet, instead of wifi?

Because I was told a direct ethernet connection will be the fastest possible connection I'll get from this hotspot, equal to or greater than wifi  - and just plugging in the ethernet cable doesn't do anything.

Got a new Nighthawk from AT&T, as well as a new plan that included buying this hotspot to replace a 6 mo. old AT&T hotspot,  in an attempt to improve my dismal connectivity speeds (downloads slower than 7 Mbs, as low as 1 Mbs). Troubleshot all kinds of things to get better speed with ATT tech support first - different browsers, rebooting everything, checking for speeds on iPhone, etc but no luck. Even with this new hotspot there was no change in throughput at all. The wifi works just like the hotspot it replaced.

I just got off a 2 hour and 40 minute phone call with Netgear (50 min on hold) and the tech was unable to diagnose how to do this seemingly simple task. He said it should connect automatically, but with wifi turned off and the ethernet cable plugged into the hotspot and my iMac (os10.14.5), I get "not connected to the internet". We tried connecting with my laptop without success, and some other things. Then he had me read off about every setting in my ATT control panel (apparently Netgear doesnt provide him with the resources techs need to view the settings a user views).  But couldn't come up with an answer. He couldn't tell me if there was a setting in the Nighthawk device where I could manually force a switch from wifi to ethernet.

The ethernet cable isnt new, but looks perfectly intact. Its possible - but unlikely I think - that a bad cable is the problem, but next trip into town I'll buy a new one. Meanwhile, asking here...

You will probably get more responses and better answers if you post in the community dedicated to your type of hardware.

Thats my first post, and the section was "Nighthawk with WiFi...."  which is exactly the device/hardware I'm inquiring about.

I'll take your word that a forum called  "/t5/Cell-Service-Mobile-Hotspot/bd-p/aircard" would be more appropriate, but it would be better if a mod moved it, rather than have 2 identical posts.

Whats your suggestion on how to proceed?
