How to create a ethernet connection on a wifi only network
Hello, I am considering using the Nighthawk M1 with my ATT unlimited plan at home. The problem I have is several low speed ethernet only devices. Such as my accurite weather station and printer exct...

I asked a similar question and was told the M1 could be used as an ethernet output only if the wifi is disabled. I too have ethernet devices, so I plan to use a wifi extender that has an ethernet jack (8$) as a bridge. Then run that into a router, if I can. I think it will work if I use static ip(s), I don't think the M1 DHCP will assign ip(s) through the second router, or even the bridge(?).
On the other hand, if I just use the M1 as a receiver and provider to a router with wifi and ethernet, it can provide DHCP and all's good. Can somebody correct me?

I was just able to confirm the ethernet port is two way meaning you can plug in a router or computer directly into it. You can also plug it into your home network (or hotel room ect.) and it will use your home internet connection instead of the LTE. In this case if your home internet fails or is disconected it will switch to LTE automatically. This must be selected in the setup. Refer to the full manual. I will use it both away from home and at home I have both options now. Connect it to my current home internet through my Netgear XR500 router or ditch my home internet and just plug my router into it with a choice of WIFI through the M1 or the XR500. By the way the wifi does NOT have to be disabled in order to use the ethernet. I am thinking Netgear did a major firmware update to address the complaints and these are old rumors we are hearing. I even read you can bridge it now! I do recomend you remove the battery as much as possible.

As an after thought:
They do sell great antenne and cases for these on Amazon. BUT I also read here some people see little to no improvment from them. Amazon sells a lot of junk that does not work as advertised!
I would like to see the top become a wireless charger for cell phone and ear buds!
I also recomend you go through each and every setting reading the full manual!

This has gotten a bit off topic except for the good advise of reading all of the options and capabilities of the unit, which I will. I just downloaded them today since I intent to bid on eBay for one and it won't come with docs.
Concerning antenna working or not, I discovered through ignorance and mistakes there are many factors that can cause unsatisfactory results that can be improved. A lot can be learned on Youtube and I recommend following simple directions found there and build one or two. I have built powerful 'cantenna' and shared my net with distant neighbors, then by putting up a second one for another neighbor cancelled out the first one because of wave interference, which I learned to solve.
So consumers who report no improvement doesn't mean much, one size doesn't fit all. An omnidirectional (360 degree) antenna won't do much, but a directional antenna can be 100X more powerful. And placement is everything, clear line of sight (trees - 30 to 50%), alignment of antenna=waves, usually vertical (5 degrees off = 90% loss).

Thank you, that's excellent. I'm looking forward to getting one.

Your welcome! I agree on the antennas! I studied for a ham lic years ago. Find a ham operator they are great help! ATT is doing a 24 month payment plan on the same new price as Netgear directly. Netgear might have some refurbished?
Do not need ultra portable?
