I created a python script to check internet connectivity every 3 minutes from my raspberry pi and reboot the modem if the connection drops out. I'd be willing to share if anyone out there is interested and already has a Linux computer running 24/7 to monitor their modem status. Now I don't have to manually reset the modem!

I ahve the same problem.
I set up a second APN that does not work but I can toggle between the 2 APNs for a faster reconnection.
The APN I setup is:
Name: Red Pocket
APN: reseller
Authentication: None
PDP: IPV4
PDP Roaming: IPV4

Great idea! I tried this, but I noticed that the connection only comes back as 3G. It won't go up to 4G until I reboot the modem after the APN change.
