LM 1200 Failover
Recently bought LM1200 for use specifically as a failover. Connected the device, using a line in from my router to the WAN port and ran a line from the LAN port to my PC. I noticed there was no Inter...

Would anyone who has this working mind sharing their settings on the Failover screen?
I'm unable to get it to work. I'm not sure if the "ping" setting needs to be enabled and I don't know what address to use for ipv4. My LM1200 is using a default address of 8.8.8.8. I also tried entering the ipv4 shown on my PC through the ipconfig/all command, but that doesn't seem to work either.
Thank you in advance for any responses.

Wih the new FW update, 2-port failover features is enabled by default. You can do a factory reset to start over.
1. Connect your laptop or Wifi Router to LM1200 LAN port
2. Connect LM1200 WAN port to your home broadband modem
3. Power on LM1200, it will detect the WAN connection automatically and the data link will go through your home broadband. You can check this on WebUI's dashboard.
No need to play with PING settings if the default works fine.
Thanks

JohnPeng unfortunately the default settings do not work in my case.
The modem works fine if I only have a cable connecting the LAN port on the modem to my router. I get the LTE signal and all is well.
As soon as I connect my incoming internet ethernet cable to the modem's WAN port, the modem goes into an endless restart cycle, over and over again. The cycle when you're looking at the LEDs on the modem goes like this:
1. All four LEDs on LM1200 are solid green. The Router has an orange LED to indicate something's wrong with the incoming signal.
2. Ethernet LAN LED goes off. Ethernet WAN LED turns solid amber. Signal Strength LED begins blinking green.
3. Ethernet LAN LED still off. Ethernet WAN LED still amber. Signal Strength LED turns solid green.
4. Ethernet LAN LED still off. Ethernet WAN LED turns solid green. Signal Strength LED stays solid green.
Repeat cycles 1 thru 4, over and over. In cycles 2 thru 4, the router LED is off, indicating no incoming signal.
If I replace the 8.8.8.8 ipv4 address from the default failover settings with the wired address that's shown on the overview page of the modem, it fixes the constant restarting issue, but then shows that I have no wired connection, and only allows the LTE signal through.
Any thoughts?

Considering the lack of replies I'm guessing I'm the only one experiencing this issue. I tried all the Google and Cloudfare DNS server addresses in the Failover settings screen with the same result (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4, 1.1.1.1, 1.0.0.1). The modem just gets looped into an endless restart cycle as soon as the second ethernet cord is attached.
Decided to return it. Pointless having this unit as a failover device when it can't function as one automatically. Works fine as a stand alone LTE modem though.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Could you please confirm that you have upgraded your devices to the latest release over the air?
Can you let me know your phone numbe? I can give you a call to check what might be wrong. If it is device issue, I can provide a replacement and get that device back for anaylsis before you return it.
Thanks

Just purchased this LM1200 IMEI 356316110358835 and it reports that no software upgrades are available at this time. Works great as a LTE modem but cannot get the failover to work full circle. When the wired modem is disconnected the LTE modem connects only after I reset my Night Hawk AC1900 router. When the wired modem is reconnected the LTE modem does not relinkquish the connection until power is recycled on the LM1200. I was expecting a more automatic symetrical response. What might I be doing wrong or is this NetGear's idea of failover?

Could you please advise the FW version on your device? The latest release version is NTG9X07C_20.06.09.00.

I am having exactly the same issue. I think its a firmware issue because it was working perfectly before the most recent firmware update. I did the update some time ago and just assumed everythign was good. it was only recently that I had a brief outage and realised that the failover was not working unless I rebooted the LM1200

Please confrim you are on the latest FW release: NTG9X07C_20.06.09.00. The failover issue should be addressed with the latest release.
Thanks

I am on NTG9X07C_20.06.06.00 and when I check for updates dont get an opton to get anything newer. This happened before and someone from Netgear sent me a PM to get my IMEI before I could get the new update. Is that still goign on?

Any reply?
I'm going to try a factory reset and then check for update to see if I get the new version, but this is far from an ideal way to get the latest version, assuming it actually works.

I got the message and applied the update (current version numbers are below). However the behavior of the LM1200 has not changed, I still have to power cycle the device to get it to failover and failback.
When the wired connection drops, the LM1200 attempts to go to LTE, but then the device becomes inaccessible. I cant ping it or access the WebUI. if I power cycle the LM1200, the LTE connection comes up.
If I then reconnect the wired connection, again, after a few seconds the LM1200 becomes inaccessible and I have to power cycle, once that is finished the wired connection is reestablished and the LTE connection goes back on standby.
it should not matter but I do have the LM1200 in bridge mode.

Since your device is set to Bridge mode, when the device swtiches between WWAN and Home Broadband, It needs to reassign the IP address to the client. That is why you see the data connection gets interrupted. Please wait for less than 1 mnitue, you will see the data connection will be restored and WebUI will be restored.
Please check again and let me know if you still experience any issues.
Thanks

Hello, I thought that may be the case, so before I posted my first reply after doing the firmware update I waited aabout 5 minutes to see if it would failover or fail back, it did not. Since the last post I let it sit trying to failover for over an hour, it does not failover or fail back without a power cycle.

Radiocooke I exclusively use router mode and failover works for me (tested by unplugging WAN ethernet). Did you try the router mode at all and was it working? In bridge mode, could it be that your client is not auto-reconfiguring its interface when failover happens?

Please aslo do a factry reset and start over after FW upgrade. Let me know if you still have issues.
Thanks

Hello,
A factory reset did not make any difference, however switching to router mode does make it work. I did some additional testing and I do not think its my host device thats not reconfiguring the interface when the LM1200 is in bridge mode. With the LM1200 in bridge mode I forced a failover by pulling the wired internet connection, once the device tries to failover I lose the wired ISP bridged IP (as expected) but it never gives the LTE bridged IP to my host. I tried a IP release/renew on my host and even rebooted it completely. The only way I can get the failover to complete in bridge mode is to power cycle the LM1200. I can probably work with it in router mode, but getting the failover to work in bridge mode would be ideal. Also I'm not sure what the firmware version number is, I think it was maybe 2 versions back, but failover in bridge mode was definately working on an older firmware version. Shame on me for upgrading firmware when everything was working LOL.
Thank you :-)

The failover feature should work in Bridge mode in the latest release. Please check and let know if you consistently see the failure. We will need your help to investigate further.
Thanks

Hello,
it works fine in router mode and definately does not work in bridge mode (for me) and can get it to fail in bridge mode 100% of the time. I'm happy to help however I can.

Reading your post from 2021....just wondering if you went into the device via browser and set it up for failover?
- RadiocookeJan 23, 2022Aspirant
Yes, I did. Failover actually was not even implemented when I first purchased the device. It took them a few firmware revisions before it was added. Even now its not enabled by default after a factory reset, so after the last reset I had to set it back up via the web browser.

Did you ever get the failver working in bridged mode? I just bought a few of these and want to try and get that working when they arrive.
If it doesn't work, I can atleast do my failover with pfSense doing a dual wan setup. - JohnPengFeb 28, 2022NETGEAR Expert

There are Verizon customers complaining dat connection drop issue, which we are working with Verizon to find out the root cause. For other carriers, such as AT&T and T-Mo, we didn't have issues on failover.
Thanks

I have Verizon so that may have been my issue, I was never able to get it workiing consistently so I switched to another device.
