M1 barely touchable, very hot.
Dear All I'm using my M1 without battery, with Wi-Fi on (2.4+5.0GHz) and six mobile devices connected, and it is always overheating. So high that is barely touchable, especially on the back side ...

To add some information, the location is a shipping port in southern Italy where the LTE signal is not very good. Unfortunately, there is no other internet connectivity available. It is possible that the 4G module is under pressure and working too hard to capture the signal. This could be causing the temperature raise. I apologize for any technical inaccuracies in my explanation. I am not an expert in this field.

Actually its quite normal.
It happen to mine as well and most likely from the CPU running non stop.
ALL the MR modem whether MR1100, 5100,6150 6400 6500 and etc they do run either warm or hot especially if its non stop 24 hours. you can reduce the CPU load by turning off the WIFI and use different WIFI router instead connected to the Ethernet port of your MR1100 (aka M1). and use the MR1100 in a bridge mode.
I put a fan on all my M1 and M6 modems and it help a lot
My M1 running non stop 24 hours for over 3 years with a fan cooler underneath the modem in a bridge mode.
This is what I use from Amazon perhaps you can find it in your area

"they do run either warm or hot especially if its non stop 24 hours"
do you think that this modem is not actually a good idea in case of a 24/7 use then ?
"you can reduce the CPU load by turning off the WIFI and use different WIFI router instead connected to the Ethernet port of your MR1100 (aka M1). and use the MR1100 in a bridge mode."
thought about that, but....do you think the 4G module can also be a part of the problem ? (that wouldn't change with an external AP). I mean exactly the same thing you say here: "...can get hot when it struggle for signal or the cpu/processor running intensively". In other words can it be the system struggling for signal and overheating the CPU ?
All my MR1100 aka M1 they all run without battery and cover and has the fan underneath
Yes, I run it w/o battery and w/o cover. I've got to add the fan though.
Many thanks for your messages
- chrodroidJul 19, 2023GuideNo idea about whether the cause is the 4g module. M1 use x16 modem - snapdragon 835 . It's the same they use in Samsung Galaxy S8 and pixel 2 phone. I have 6 M1 and use them all at different lication and run 24 hours non stop. I never have any probkem. It's not like their M6 modem like the 6150 which gives A LOT OF problem, headaches s and cost more than the M1. I also use orbi lbr20 kte but that one is bigger than the m1.

Forgot to mention once it get hot remove the battery and let it run either with power adapter or external battery through the charging port. It is best just let it open without the battery cover and put the fan underneath to cool it down. All my MR1100 aka M1 they all run without battery and cover and has the fan underneath,
BTW its the same thing your phone can get hot when it struggle for signal or the cpu/processor running intensively
