M6 150 Running very hot
My M6 150 bought today, is operating at something between 50 and 70 Degrees Celsius inner (device) temperature according to the webgui diagnostics. This is the case with battery or without, with ...

What actual device model is this? MR6150? you said M6 150. i can't seem to find that device. The MR6150 if that's what you're talking about, does not run that hot. I run my devices without the battery and place them near the window. average temps run at 44-46 F, no wifi, LAN cable with IP passthrough.

I am sorry, yes, it is the `MR6150`, I missed the `R`. I have now associated the correct product to my reply.
And yes it runs darn hot.
Average operation temperature (according the online GUI) is around 56C
I have seen the thing saying 74COperation mode:
- no battery- ethernet enabled
- wifi enabled
- one switch connected to the ethernet serving 2 computers, one of which has rather constant, but not heavy chatter (basically used as a home network, it barely even needs to access the actual internet, so, the switch should actually bypass the router for most of its communication)
- additionally 5 wifi devices connected to it, normal civilian usage
The device is new, I registered it and it has genuine serial number etc (I did buy it from a retailer in Hong Kong, where it is currently used).
Environment temperatures here currently are around 31C max (outside), usually cooler inside (air-con)
What I can tell is that when the GUI says around 56C, to the hand touch the device does _not_ feel that hot (I can touch it. 56C cannot be touched without being burnt). However when it reported 74C, the thing was _really_ hot.
It has never shut down as of yet, and I believe the device has a self protection inbuilt to shut down on overheat?
Could it be that the GUI reporting tool is wrong? You mention:
> average temps run at 44-46 F
I can hardly believe that đ
That would be 6C, which even an iPhone surpasses by far.For reference, this is 6 degrees C above freezing point of water.
It really concerns me because due to the massive price of the device I really want it to not break đ
(For reference, one of my computers has costed _less_ than this router lol)- rcpaxOct 22, 2024Luminary
yes sorry that was a typo on my part. currently running 46 deg C at my house. No battery.

The latest firmware has temperature protection feature.
from my own testing, the battery overheat icon will start showing up at around 49C battery temperature.
the device itself will start showing a temperature alert at around 60C. so they do get hot up to that point. At 60C it will disconnect your device, if it is being used with a battery, it will stop charging as well.
I have used a fan to help the device cool down. it's fall season where I live and the temps have gone down. so I have 44C operating temp right now.
the device firmware should not let the device heat up to 70+C. please make sure you have updated to the latest firmware. Mine is v12.01.54.00. If you are on the same firmware, I suggest you stop using it and have it check at the store where you bought it. If it is truly that hot, then the temp reporting is probably accurate.

Yes, firmware is up to date.
Since I saw it going to 70+, it is since usually around 56.
Can I ask, where on the device do those temperature alerts appear?
I do not remember seeing that on the device when it was 70+ reported in the online GUI, but also I did not check explicitly. It did not shut down at that time.
I will go to the shop, I guess.
Thanks!
