m6500 usb tether to ASUS 1900 router

Hi there. First time posting. I looked around but didn't find what Im looking for.  

I just got the m6500 unlocked unit.  Im using it with T-mobile's network. 

I want to usb tether the m6500 to my asus 1900 router. 

I have tried to get it to connect but no luck with it.  

Usually with the ASUS 1900 its very simple of a plug in and switch the connection over from ethernet cable to usb tethering. (using the ASUS firmware)

Before the m6500 I was using a franklin T9 to usb connect to the ASUS router with no issues. 

Any advice on what I need to do to make this connection work?

Go easy on me, im new to this device.
