I spoke with netgear who said that once you plug in the wired port it switches off the WiFi, does this happen on yours or do you not use the WiFi part. I don’t have the device to prove this as it’s at a remote location where it needs setting up

I can't guess who at NG would have said such a thing. My mr1100 is running both wifi and wired ethernet. I would not have gotten it, if it had such a limitation.
That said, at Settings -> Setup -> Mobile Router Setup, if you turn on IP Passthrough, it will disable wifi.

I drove to the site to try it and it is worse than Netgear said, the port doesn’t work at all on anything other than sending data to another router. I tried it in my 2 laptops, nothing, tried it in my grandstream adapter still nothing. Plugged it into a switch then tried still nothing.
tried a snom ip phone that works perfectly on my network still nothing, no matter what settings I changed.
switched the settings for Ethernet in the router still nothing. It is a total waste of time and only any good for WiFi connections.

I can't say why yours is causing grief. For myself, at this moment, via VPN to my home where the endpoint is an ethernet-connected-to-mr1100 host, I am reaching both wired and wifi hosts.
Is your ethernet port alive at all? Have you configured the mr1100 to disable ethernet standby?
(Settings -> Setup -> Mobile Router Setup -> ethernet standby)
Objectively, the unit is designed for simultaneous wired and wifi use. If your wired port is not functional, you may have a defective unit. Even being remote right now, I have just configured the wired host to speak both wifi and wired to the 10.0.0.0/24 network there, including DHCP response on wifi while the wired network works.

Yes i have done that setup feature but it still doesn’t work. The only way it works is to plug into another router it then works apart from it keeps complaining about ip conflicts. The port lights up a switch and the grandstream voip phone etc but refuses the give an ip even to a laptop Ethernet port
