Just spoke with support about this. They said that the firmware pushes are controlled by the ISP's providing service to the modems and they are relying on them to push the newest versions. In my case, they have some agreement with AT&T that they will push the latest firmware. The rep confirmed the latest version for the MR1100 is "12.06.08.00".
My biggest concerns are around the Security Advisory they issued for all versions lower than 12.06.08.00 having a vulnerability they fixed in that version. Currently my device is vulnerable and I have no way of mitigating that until AT&T pushes the firmware. It's frustrating because I can download it right now from the support site but, unlike every other device I've owned, I can't manually push the update because that feature has been removed.
Here is a link the to security advisory. It's medium severity, but still concerning.

Thanks for the reply. Just like with every update we are getting for windows and other software and devices they are not fully making sure it is working properly before releasing. Which means we are at there mercy. So what to do now is the question.
