MR1100 power supply

I want to put a Nest thermostat into a cabin with no internet service but with good AT&T LTE service.  I am considering the

Nighthawk® LTE Mobile Hotspot Router Model: MR1100

and need to know if its OK to leave it plugged into a 110 volt electrical outlet continuously.  Probably not good for the rechargeable battery but as long as its not a safety issue it should serve my purposes.

  • Hi Mitchon,

How often do you visit the cabin?  Though its reliability has improved in recent months, there have been many on this board which have tried to do something similar only the have the MR1100 hang, get an unplanned firmware update, or otherwise malfunction only to lose their remote internet connection while they are some hundreds or thousands of miles away.  Unfortunately, when it hangs, you often have to pull the battery in order to reset it.

You can run the MR1100 with or without a battery which properly powered with a high quality, replacement QC2 or QC3 quick charger from the likes of Anker or others.  To what extent the firmware limits battery charging when full and/or resumes charging as necessary is anyone's guess.  Netgear refuses to weigh in and just quotes text from the manual suggesting you not leave it plugged in when the battery is full charged.
