Netgear with SIM as Backup for a Fastweb connection (fiber)

Hello,

I have a Fastweb Fastgate modem for the fiber connection. I would acquire a Netgear solution, with SIM card, to have a real time backup of the Internet connection.

When the fiber will be unaivalable I would  have the SIM internet connection as backup, everything in real time.

I don't know if I have to connect the Netgear to the Fastgate (and how because I don't see the wan port on the Fastgate) or if I have to use just the Netgear (which one?) with fiber cable and SIM card.

Here the Fastgate modem and the connection with the fiber.

  • You can either get an MR6550 (best) or MR6150 (cheaper). you can connect one of the LAN port from your fiber modem to the ethernet port of the MR6xxx device and put the MR6xxx in offload mode. This setup would mean you are going to use the MR6xxx hotspot wifi, which is probably not something you would want if you plan to use it as whole home wifi.

I have achieved something similar by buying an OpenWRT compatible router, and have used offloading features, and have used the router's wifi. but this is a very involved setup. there are other turtorials on the net on how to achieve this.
