Night Hawk M2 stuck on "Checking for updates"

Hi All,

Bought the Night Hawk M2 to help me out with a remote location somewhere in Europe.
Turns out it switches off a lot > internet drops.
Read online that I need to update my firmware.

Tried doing that but the device gets stuck on a spinning icon next to "Checking for updates" and it never resolves/checks anything.
Tried 3 different sim cards from 3 different providers that all have good 4g reception (tried them all in the city just now)

What gives?
Was expecting something better from a 450+ eu device.
