Nighthawk M1 (MR1100) -Why is LED light on (very dim) when device is powered off ???
I purchased an M1 a week ago and have been running it through its paces. It is a nice device (though, not perfect). Late last night when I turned off the light in the room, I noticed a very (ver...
- Mar 28, 2018Yep, the Firmware update also fixed this LED always-on bug for me as well.

No, the M1 (from AT&T) is not plugged into the USB when I notice the red LED light on (again, it is very, very dim), the M1 is only on battery. And, yes, this is definitely reproducable since it happens all the time since I first noticed this the other night and have been monitoring it. For example, I just took the device out of the bag it has been sitting in for the past 24+ hrs and the red LED is still on.
Currently, I have set it up to run only 2.4ghz (to save battery). I do not believe the M1 has hung anytime when shutting down for me. Since ta few nights ago when I first noticed the LED being on when M1 is powered off, I have shut down the device maybe five times. Each shutdown seemed normal.
I wonder if other owners of this device can chime in as well. I only have a few more days left to replace this device if there is a defect.
*** To easily check whether this red LED is on during the day or if a light is on in the room, you can simply step into a closet and close the door. Although the red light is dim, it is very noticeable when looking at the LED in a pitch dark room.

You're right. Mine does this, too. It is obvious when in a dark room. When I remove the battery it goes completely dark.

This is really odd to have this red LED llight on when the device is powered off. Although it does not seem like this is draining any noticeable amount of battery, but again I really cannot be sure because I have only observed this for the past couple of days.
I suspect this is an example of yet another bad design/engineering I have come across in just the one week I have had this device (which otherwise supposedly looks awesome on paper).
First, there are reboot issues reported by many. Whereas this could be related to inadequate included power supply, I am on my second one as my first M1 randomly rebooted regardless I had the battery in or not.
Then there is the IP Pass Thru issue (maybe broken by a recent firmware update)
I also have issues successfully logging computers into the M1 when I set its broadcast network/SSID to OFF.
Also, with boadcast network/SSID on, I have experienced a few (small amount of) cases where my computers/smartphones can see the M1's 's SSID, but simply cannot log onto the router (from multiple devices) until I reboot the M1.
Here on this thread, JSchnee21 has reported the hanging experienced during shutdowns.
I wonder what I will stumble on next...

I wonder if this is a "Feature." Like when I turn my iPhone off it's not really off.

While I'm not a conspiracy nut, it's clear the iPhone behaves differently when you "Shutdown" and "Restart" versus when you "double power off."

Well, that's a theory. For me, I'd rather have the device power entirely off when I turn it off.
I am wondering if others' devices also have their red LED on. No one else has responded.
