Nighthawk M1 won't connect to Vodafone in Spain - Why?

I have a Nighthawk M1 router. I just dropped $80 on Vodafone Spain sim cards for it, only to find out that it won't connect to their network at all. I'm not in an area with great reception, but my old Iphone 12 Pro still manages a decent-ish connect and hops betweeen 3G, 4G and 5G depending on it's mood.

I know the M1 doesn't support 5G but I was hoping to at least get something out of it.

I've tried every APN I can find on the internet, and nothing. I did notice when I manually select the network it always says Movistar is active - which is the wrong network. It just won't go to the Vodafone network. Iphone worked out of the (sim) box.

Do I give up? Is Vodafone network / band / MHz simply not compatible with nighthawk M1?

I bought this thing thinking it would be globally compatible (even if not top speed 5g, I don't care) so I'm disappointed to see I'm fighting with incompatible bands...
