Nighthawk M1100 Orientation

Is there an optimum orientation for the Nighthawk M1100 that maximizes its LTE reception and performance? I work overseas and live in an Alaska tent with plywood dividers, so I can mount it at about 8 feet high either lying flat or positioned vertically with the ports facing down. Not currently using an external antenna with it.
