Rural internet, that's about it. Helium has better signal since they piggyback off of T-Mobile which has great coverage in my area. The Hotspot is primarily used to extend the range of the MR1100 instead of any smart metering.

All these LPN LoRaWAN (indeed some kind of piggy-back on the mobile networks) are not intended for generic Internet volume data access - all pure IoT cloud, anything connecting to it is going over some cloud services. Technically, everything is possible - doubt somehow mobile provider will assign a public IP address anyway.

I read somewhere that someone managed to "get" a static IP through the use of a VPN and some other hardware the name of which escapes me. It warrents more research.
