Nighthawk MR5200 (M5) - We need your feedback!
Good day Nighthawk Community,
I'm reaching out to you today in hopes of soliciting your help. If anyone is experiencing any issues with the Nighthawk MR5200 (M5) Mobile Hotspot we want to hear ...

Hi,
maybe it is possible to also help with the issue we experience.
We own two MR5200, let's call one "old" and the other one "new".
We use to run "old" with a Vodafone (Germany) SIM which originally came from a "Vodafone GigaCube", some kind of relabeled HUAWEI 5G Router. This setup was running fine for about 12 Month or so, but recently we started to experience interruptions of LTE connections after 12 to 24 hours. Only a reebot of "old" would help getting reconnected.
So we bought "new", used the very same SIM card with it. We experienced, that "new" wouldn't even connect to LTE nor any other band.
So we ordered a fresh SIM card and used in "new" but experienced the very same behaviour. "new" wouldn't connect to any band.
When using the fresh SIM card in "old", we were back to a connect time of about 12 to 24 hours, but then again interruptions of the connection.
JohnPengcould you take a look at the model.json stats if we upload them?
Many thanks in advance!

Thanks John. I have replied to your DM. I don't think the issue is with the external Antenna, however I recommend using this one or the upgraded version as a workaround to get it back on the network. Unfortunately the device is not holding the network connection after unplugging the external antenna. Also with this not being an isolated issue, I don't think it's a hardware issue. Something in the latest firmware has caused it to seek signals on the wrong network for the sim / apn... or is causing the device to think it's not permitted to connect to the network on the 3/4G networks...(not been able to fully test it on 5G as I can only get the 5G about 2 miles from where I live, however both times I've been in 5G areas it's worked fine).

Update... now My M5 is not staying connected to the mobile network after unplugging the External Antenna!... It is not capable of Finding / connecting to the network. I am about to loose the rag since It only seems to connect now to H or 5G and doesn't seem to be capable of picking up 4G or 4G+ without the aid of this antenna! where My phone gets at least 2 bars of 4G+ and 4 or 5 bars of 4G on the same network (3 / Three)
- Southern_CajunAug 28, 2022GuideYeah… it’s like the m5 internal antennas are completely turned off. Mine is doing precisely the same thing.
Really bizarre. - TmacTradingLtdAug 29, 2022Apprentice
Further Update!! I swapped out my ID mobile sim and left it in My Huawie B535 for home internet so My Mum had wifi,
I then put the 3 Sim card which was in the B535 in my Netgear M5 and took it with me and the same happened as what happened on Saturday on ID mobile!! I had 4G+ from inverness to pretty Much Garve / Inchbae, then had H+ from Aultguish to Ullapool. 4G+ in ullapool, t to Strathcanaird (north of Ullapool) H+ Strathcanaird to Drumrunie turn off to Achiltibui etc on My phone...
On the hotspot... I got 5G in inverness to north Kessock. then lost signal between the Munlochly Turn off and tore! then had nothing all the way to after the Altguish Inn... even then it only lasted a few minutes then lost it until I got to 5G in Ullapool... So this device at this point is not backwards compatible with 3G H/H+ and 4G without an external Antenna.
Further! when it's on H/4G it tries to connect to every other network it is set to attach too (Sim: 3 APN: 3internet) it was trying to connect onto EE/Vodafone and O2, There was a time when it was on 3 and it had the no entry sign!
Needs to be fixed- dpchengAug 29, 2022StarWhen it tries to connect to every other network on 4G/4G+, try editing the APN settings and toggle Authentication Type from None to pap or chap and save the settings, this will force the device to reconnect to the 4G network without rebooting.
This is the firmware bug of the M5 I reported earlier on.
