No Geo-location data
Okay.. So I live in Michigan and I've been enjoying taking part in the newly legal online casinos/sportsbook as of early 2021 when these websites launched.
My desktop PC does not have WiFi built in and these websites use geo-location information to verify I'm in Michigan every 20-30 minutes or so to confirm that I am legally allowed to play. So I bought a USB WiFi adapter (Realtek 8812BU) to be able to connect my desktop to WiFi and get this information and everything's perfectly fine for months. No issue whatsoever.
Fast forward to this last week. I get an email from Xfinity saying they've updated my internet speed by 200mbps. All I have to do is reset my modem for this to take effect. Sounds great. I unplugged the modem and plugged it back in.. Allegedlly my internet is faster, woo. Ever since this however, I have been kicked off online gambling sites repeatedly, if I can even login/play at all and have even had accounts temporarily flagged for fraud for potentially masking my location as apparently, my WiFi is now giving all sorts of different locations or none at all. Sometimes it works, I can login, even play a little and then after a few minutes it will say they can't verify my location. Sometimes it works again just a few minutes later, or it will just give no location from the start for hours on end. Now, we've lost power a few times during the summer with no such problems before so I'm not sure why this seems to correlate with this exact "reset" of the modem. I called Xfinity and they said it's not something on their end that would be causing a geo-location error and it was my modem manufacturer that would have a solution.
I've restarted the modem multiple times since this has started with no apparent effect and I've even switched to a static IP to no effect. These websites are not getting any location information from the device. This is also the case when I use the mobile apps for these casinos and am connected to WiFi. So it's clearly an issue with the WiFi and not the device.
Thanks for any suggestions or help. The fact you have to pay $70 just to talk to someone at NETGEAR is ridiculous.
