Question with MR1100

Hi,

I can't seem to find much information on what carriers this device supports? I've seen it for sales by AT&T. But will it would with any carriers sim card that has a 4G LTE plan on it?

Thanks,

Derek R.

  • I think the problem might be that if you don't obtain the M1 as part of a package deal from one of the mobile network providers, you will have difficulty updating the firmware. There's another question in this section of the site where someone has obtained an unlocked M1 and is unable to update the firmware because Netgear don't put the M1 firmware on their site - it's automatically updated via the network provider.

Sorry about my terrible grammar in my original post. That's what I get for using my cell phone haha.

So are you saying that the firmware on the device is locked to AT&T?

I can't say for sure but my guess is that there will be minor differences in the features that are enabled for network providers in different countries. I'm in the UK and my provider is called EE. When Netgear release new firmware, there's a good chance that this is customised for each provider - this would explain why they don't currently provide firmware updates for the M1 on their site. When I got my M1, the first time I powered it up it checked for firmware updates and automatically installed the latest version via my provider. I don't know where that firmware was downloaded from - it could have been from either my provider's site or directly from Netgear.
