Router USB won't connect to Dell 3110cn printer

I would like to connect my Dell 3110cn printer to the USB on the router to free up an ethernet port but the NETGEAR USB control center won't recognize the printer. I had to connect the printer to the USB on my computer to install it's USB driver, then connect the printer to the USB on the router, but no luck. Any ideas?
