Unlocked MR6500 reboot cycle
As suggested by another forum member, I'm starting a new thread that's specific to my problem. I've acquired an MR6500. With no SIM card installed it boots to the home screen and stays awake. I...

Every time I check for a software update, it says my version is up to date and gives me no way to check for updates. The current version is now: NTGX65_10.04.22.01. I know that this is not the latest, but I see no way to get anything newer. Am I missing something? Is there no way to force an update? The current version has known bug issues that I don't want to have to deal with.
Sorry for replying your email late. AT&T has the control of releasing the upgrade gradually. So far, they haven't release it to all the devices with FW 10.04.22.01. You can check later.

Not sure if it's critical, but I initiated the power up "fix" again last night and this time it stayed alive for a few minutes. Long enough to capture the model.json file before it started the boot loop thing again.
Please provide a model.josn file with the T-Mo SIM if possible. If it can't boot up to the dashboard, you can power up the device without the SIM card to capture the model.json file.
- Logon to the webui (http://192.168.1.1 ) as an administrator
- Navigate to URL http://192.168.1.1/model.json via the same browser window
- Capture the results (by selecting all + copy) and send it back
You can email the log to me at jopeng@netgear.com with your community ID.
Thanks

Two copies of the model.json files have been emailed. One is with no SIM card installed and the other is with the T-Mobile SIM card installed.

Tried to perform a software update with sim card removed and Ethernet cable attached to home router as per the instructions on another thread, but the device says firmware is up to date, but the version is: NTGX65_10.01.31.01. Is there any way to update the software on a device that is in a continuous boot loop and has older software?
Just for clarification I did perform the following:
1. Remove the SIM card and insert a sufficiently charged battery into the device.
2. Press and hold the power button on the top of the device for a few seconds to turn it on.
3. Connect the device to a computer using the USB-C to USB-A cable included in the box.
4. From your computer’s web browser, go to the Web User Interface (UI) of the device at http://attwifimanager. If this fails to load within a few minutes, try http://192.168.1.1. Enter your administrator Username and Password, then click SIGN IN.
5. From the Web UI dashboard, navigate to the SETTINGS tab > General > Internet > click Ethernet + Cellular and Apply.
6. Once the device has finished rebooting, begin physically setting up the Ethernet offloading to the device by determining an available access point to use. In your home, this access point is likely to be the router that you usually use to connect your other devices, such as cell phones and laptop computers, to the Internet.
7. Connect the device to the router using an ethernet (or LAN) cable. Plug in one end of the cable into one of the LAN ports of the router (usually not coloured distinctively and labelled numerically or “Ethernet” or “LAN”) and plug in the other end of the cable into the Ethernet port of the device.
8. On the Web UI, wait up to a few seconds and refresh the webpage to check that the device now has Internet connection via Ethernet.
9. Check for and install firmware updates, go to the SETTINGS tab > Administration > select Firmware Update and click the Check for Updates button.
* Note that you can check for updates only once every 24 hours.
10. The firmware update will start downloading and installing automatically. The firmware update is complete once the device has finished several rounds of rebooting.- JT240ZJul 19, 2023Luminary
AT&T SIM installed but still boot looping.
Will try to upload software again tomorrow but not hopeful. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Can anyone explain what the purpose of the "software Update" mode is when plugging in the USB-C cable into the device with no battery and holding down the power button?

The firmware upload was successful this time using the Ethernet offloading method described above. The new version is: NTGX65_10.04.22.01 with a build date of 2023/01/11. The boot loop issues seem to have been resolved.
Is this the final firmware version or should I check for another software update after 24 hours?
