GS305E "The Switch and Manager IP Adress are not in the same subnet"?

Does the router assign an IP address to the switches, does the utility show an IP address in that subnet?

This is correct. the Netgear NSDP protocol used for the Plus Utility (EoL....) is disabled except for the discovery. No idea this minute why the NSDT does not allow to find the switch ... except potentially the subnet mask.

If the Plus Utility does show IP addesses in your IP subnet, and different from the default .0.239 ... the default IP is not active obviously.

I would suggest to disconnect the switches from the network, use a computer with an Ethernet adapter, connect a cable, re-start the switch (each on it's own of course), configue an IP address on the computer adapter in the 192.168.0.x/24 subnet (255.255.255.0) - now you can connect the switch. Configure a static (fixed) IP on the switch in the 255.255.240.0 network. Power down, repeat the same with the second switch. Let's pray this is possible and allowed.
