GS308EP - turning off EEE

Hi

Does anyone know if it's possible to turn off 'Energy Efficient Ethernet' on a GS308EP switch?

Thanks

You can disable Power saving mode, the power saving mode enables the IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) function.

You can disable this feature by going to the Settings and then go to Power Saving mode.

From the menu at the top of the page, select SETTINGS.

From the menu on the left, select POWER SAVING. The POWER SAVING pop-up window opens.

you can check the User manual here.

      Thanks Marc
That’s great, it looks like it defaults out of the box to EEE off, so nothing to change.

Curious what concerns or fears exist out there about 802.3az aka. EEE implementations in the real world?

Audio over IP applications like Dante or AVB don't like EEE.  Being able to defeat it in an unmanaged switch is a plus.

There is - by definition - nothing to configure on an Unmanaged Switch: We don't talk of these here.

On the GS305EP/EPP and GS308EP/EPP - making up the Gigabit Ethernet Easy Smart Essentials PoE Switch models in Netgear terms, there is a control to disable it as Marc_V explained before (years ago in fact).

Indeed, Dante or AVB don't like EEE.

Dante FAQ: Can I use EEE (Energy Efficient Ethernet or ‘Green Ethernet’) in my Dante network?

AVB (Audio Video Bridging): While they can coexist from the standardisation prospective, AVB requires strict, uninterrupted timing that can be disrupted by the sleep states introduced by EEE.
