VLAN Configuration Issue GS724Tv4

Hey guys,

I am trying to configure two separate VLANs on my switch.

What I want to achieve:

I want to separate my switch into two "port groups" that each are on a separate subnet and are each plugged into my router separately.

Current configuration:

  • Port 1 - 20: VLAN 1 / PVID 1 / Untagged
  • Port 21 - 24: VLAN 200 / PVID 2 / Untagged
  • LAG Ports: None
  • Management LAN is currently on the standard config of VLAN 1
  • I am running the most current firmware: 6.3.1.36
  • Nothing else is configured

What is the issue:

The separation works as expected if I plug one cable from my router into one of the "port groups" and then my laptop into the same group.

However, as soon as I plug in the two cables to my router (e.g. Port 1 to Subnet1 and Port 21 to SUbnet2), I no longer get any DHCP leases on the VLAN 200.

Furthermore, if I was previously connected to the VLAN 200 (therefore already have an IP) and then plug in thethe cable into port 1, any pings to the router stop working (but as soon as I unplug the cable, the ping is successful again).

I have a similar setup on a GS728TPv2, where the configuration works as expected, which is why I do not understand why it does not work here.

I hope anyone of you can point me into the right direction as to why it is not working.

Thanks!

Greetings,

Philip

Yeah you are right it should be PVID 200 for the Ports 21 -24. This was just a typo.

Sorry for the confusion. I try to rephase what I meant.

Router with two separate subnets (no other networks devices as this is my testlab).

Now i plug in one cable into the router and one in port 24. Therefore, connecting the first subnet with the 200 VLAN on the switch.

Then I plug in my laptop into port 21 and get an IP. I can then successfully ping the router.

Now if I plug in the second network cable from the other router subnet into port 1 of the switch, The ping on my laptop stops working.

After having another look at my setup and removing some VLAN configuration on the router it started working again.

So it really was some misconfiguration on the router-side and not the switch side.

    Thanks for your help! :)

    Should be Port 21 - 24: VLAN 200 / PVID 200 / Untagged - screenshoot looks OK however.

No idea yet what could go worng. Are these two subnets completely isolated, or could we face some loop?

Here we face some misconception. Disconnecting a an adapter must drop the DHCP address from the interface, there can't be an "already have an IP".

Now I'm completely lost - link gone and ping works uhhhhh. Are there multiple links to a computer in this scenario?
