So there is no way to go modem to switch to router? The router needed to be moved to the main floor so the mesh worked better.

No. but you could get a cheap gigabit router or even just a router without wireless and place there. And then put the other routers after that in AP (access point) mode. I've done that before.
What mesh setup are you using? most support a hardwired backhaul. and then you could just add a satellite instead of replacing the main router.

I have the Google Mesh router with 3 access points.

They support a wired backhaul. you can move them around but even with those you still need to go modem----router----switch------AP's.
