FVS318N uses SSLv.30 and TLS.30 SSL which has been used for years and is one of the predominant protocol used for e-commerce transations today. I can say this has been widely tested and implemented. In addition to SSL, it al so supports DES,3DES, AES-256,MD5, SHA1. Also, it supports cache cleanup after session termination, this will protect your identity and private information on shared computers. If you feel that web based logins are not secure, then SSL would not be your choice. Both SSL and IPsec are good options, they both have considerable security pedigree, although they may suit different applications. IPsec operate at layer 3 (network layer), this solutions is suited to situations where users need to be connected to the network all the time. SSL works on layers 5 and 6 (application), this is more preferred for remote access and in typical deployment grant access to resources depending on the users role. I would say SSL is more conveniet due to it being a web application. SSL can be used simply for creating a tunnel with full network access while IPsec can be locked down to a specific services, which is why some companies use them both.
