If it is the same wireless controller, you don't need to re-install the standalone firmware but it will depend if the AP is running on the same firmware as the controller. if you are not sure about the installed firmware then It would be best to install a standalone firmware and discover it using the controller.

So, assuming it is same firmware:
When I remove (configured and working) access point from 'managed AP list' then I should be able to re-discover this AP again if I use Discovery wizard?

That is correct. Just use the discovery wizard from your controller and you may be able to detect the access point. Just let me know if that will not work.
