WAX206 WIRELESS CONNECTION TO CURRENT ROUTER

I recently purchased a WAX206 to access my wifi network wirelessly and to connect via ethernet to a new computer that does not have wifi reception capability. I can get the WAX206 set up as a access point, but it has to be connected to my wireless modem/router from my ISP. This doesnt work for me since the router/modem is on the main floor and the desktop computer is in the basement. I am wondering why I cant connect through wireless. Any help is appreciated, definitely a novice as far as networking.

You didn't want an access point or a router.

What you wanted was a simple wireless extender that has ethernet ports.

An access point needs to be hardwired into the router it connects to.

Perfect! So if I use the Wax206 wired into my ISP's modem/router and use a mesh range extender like ex6400 ac1900 I could use an ethernet cable to my computer?

Why do you even need the WAX? You could go ISP modem/router--->extender
