Orbi app saying Armor not installed on iPad
Hi all My iPad has the Bitdefender app installed and running with web protection enabled. However, the Orbi app on my iPhone reports the iPad as being unprotected and eligible for installation/prote...

Same here. Iphone with app. Anyone that has a solution and willing to share?
- JeffgearJun 04, 2022VirtuosoNetgear Armor support suggested reinstalling the Bitdefender and Orbi apps on my affected Apple devices, and rebooting the router. I tried this approach yet again but it did not resolve the issue. I also tried deleting all relevant iPhone and iPad entries in the Armor web console, which forces the app to logout on those devices, then re signed in. But this doesn’t fix it. Support then suggested a factory reset of the RBR50 router but I’m leaving the nuke option for a rainy day given it might take me hours to reconfigure all my settings if the backup won’t restore. Three other occupant’s Apple devices all show up with Bitdefender installed in the Orbi app but my two Apple devices either remain as “eligible” or sometimes they actually don’t appear as eligible but do not have the Bitdefender installed logo under device details. Clicking the security option in Orbi under the affected device entries, reports “Security details not available, try again later.” Even when an automatic scan is carried out the status doesn’t change in the Orbi app, but under the Armor web console the devices show as green ticked and scanned with no vulnerabilities, but there’s no “B” tag to signify Bitdefender is installed.
sounds like I have to give the nuke option a go to rule it out and appease Support. Pity there is no network flush option that isn’t a factory reset but I think a reboot effectively flushes ARP and router tables. Odd that the Orbi app cannot reconcile device status with the Router for just some Apple devices. I may try “forgetting” the SSID on my affected devices and flushing the network settings, then re associating with my wifi to see if this forces a new MAC to be learnt by the router and Orbi app, and Bitdefender works again… Watch this space.- MontereyFredJun 05, 2022Star
Ii have observed the same phenomenon in our home over many months with multiple iPhones and iPads. They sometimes register as being "protected" but more often they don't. I've tried most of the troubleshooting actions discussed here without joy. A complete system reset for one of the other problems plaguing Orbi these days solved that problem but not this one.
In reality, I've decided that having the devices register as protected doesn't really matter to me. I haven't found any real value to the Armor iOS/iPadOS app other than the VPN - but the VPN doesn't work very well either. The Armor web console reveals that the devices are protected - IF Netgear ever fixes this such that the Orbi app acknowledges the same thing, that's fine with me. My security scores in the Orbi app are around 91 when the devices aren't properly registering and 99 when they are. I'm not sure it's worth wasting any more time with it...

Hi MontereyFred
I will persevere with Armor as it has been beneficial against some dubious websites that its correctly identified as malicious. Bitdefender seems to have been doing some improvements in their backend services as its been getting more reliable and responsive with the Orbi security score changing more regularly. Previously it seems like it was doing very little, if anything to protect my network.
The VPN on my MacBook is solid. It's only the VPN on the iPad and iPhone that occasionally just hang and toggling airplane mode or pausing the protection for 15 mins resolves it. Plus the Orbi app doesn't tally up with the Armor web console's view of your network. Hopefully this will all be ironed out in time.
Armor correctly recognises many of my IoT devices as not being eligible for the client but still provides the vulnerability scan and basic network level of protection. Where I can install the client on a compatible device, it then provides the highest level of client-based protection, plus the potential to use the VPN for safer browsing.
The niggles with it are:
(1) I cannot "whitelist" or exclude some IoT devices that are not able to have the Bitdefender installed but it persistently reports them as "eligible" and this reduces your security score, making the score a less meaningful measure.
(2) As mentioned, the VPN on the Apple iPad and iPhone sometimes hangs and you cannot browse unless you toggle airplane mode or pause/stop the VPN.
(3) Some Apple iPad and iPhone devices on my network are persistently showing as "eligible" in Orbi yet are successfully running the the Bitdefender client in VPN mode. An Orbi app issue? These are the same model and iOS version as other Apple devices that are consistently reported as protected in the Orbi app. I've never been able to find the root cause with some iOS devices.
(4) Armor web UI showing multiple variants of your Apple iPad and iPhone, some devices with their native host names and others listed by their Orbi app assigned names, or as a "generic streaming device." Some being listed in the web console as having the client installed and running fine yet showing in the Orbi app as being eligible for Bitdefender. The private Wi-Fi address feature on the iOS devices seems to compound the issue with multiple device entries here, but deleting all the device entries in the Armor web UI and re-logging the devices back into the Bitdefender client, still doesn't reconcile with the Orbi app's view of the world. I can get the point where all iOS devices have the client running and fully protected in the web UI but Orbi disagrees as per point (3) and reporting that I can still add Bitdefender security to some. I have tried disabling private Wi-Fi addressing but Orbi app still reported them as eligible even though they are running the client fine in VPN mode. The nuke option of reseting my router is my next step for a rainy day.
