Overcoming geographic restrictions while outside the country without a VPN

Those traveling outside the country run into restrictions when trying to access various online services in the home country. Now, I know there are VPN services, there are ways to connect to a remote router to change settings, & there are ways to connect to a home network for file sharing. But I am trying to find out whether it is feasible while traveling outside the country, to access the home country webpages through a home router left behind in the home country?
