I have the exact same line of questioning, having sort of reached the same conclusion that Netgear seems to be trying to sell the soon to be decommissioned 1st Gen Circle. I have the Orbi50 and can't use the current Circle Home app or subscription, and can only sign up for a service that I have no faith will even be maintained for the year's term duration!!
