“Something went wrong” when finishing nighthawk Wi-Fi app set up
I got this Nighthawk from our land lord. We had the internet switched to our account. The Technician set up out new modem and internet connection. I factory reset the Nighthawk and used the nighthawk...

Without that information, we are just guess what is happening at your end.
DSL? Cable? Something else? Does it have a row of Ethernet ports on the back?
You seem to be using a mobile app to set things up. (Which one? iOS? Android?)
Have you tried using the browser graphical user interface (GUI) and a wired Ethernet connection
Troubleshooting relies on having accurate step by step details of what you are doing, and where things go wrong.
Manuals are always a good place to start.

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.
That page will also have any software, firmware and drivers for your device, if they exist.
Begin with the Quick Start/Installation Guide.
- DRHENDEAug 04, 2023AspirantIt is hooked up to a dual dsl to a modem that can have dsl or fiber connection. It does have multiple Ethernet ports on the back. I used the app on my iPhone and iPad with IOS. I have tested the wired Ethernet directly to my computer and that worked.

As I said, accurate details are important. So, can we clarify this bit?

"It is hooked up to
a dual dsl toa modem that can have dsl or fiber connection."?Not sure what fiber means. Every Internet service has fibre somewhere. All ISPs toss the F word into their marketing. That's how the Internet works. True fibre should mean optical fibre to your front door. In that case the ISP usually supplies and optical network termination (ONT),
But the next bit is probably the killer:

It does have multiple Ethernet ports on the back.Without a proper model number, it is hard to be definitive, but to me that smells like a modem/router. So you have added the R9000 router to another router, That way madness lies.
Two routers on your network can cause headaches. For example, you can end up with local address problems. Among other things, the other router can misdirect addresses that the Netgear router usually handles, such as routerlogin.net or the usual IP address for a router, 192.168.1.1.
That may explain the “Something went wrong” message.
This explains some of the other drawbacks.
What is Double NAT? | Answer | NETGEAR Support
Unless you have specific reasons for using two routers – to create two separate networks for example – it is often easier to use just one router and then to set up the second router as a wifi access point. Netgear advises this, as does just about every site you will visit.
It may be possible to put the modem/router into modem only (bridge) mode and then to use the second device as the router. Sometimes it is easier to put the second router into AP mode. But that has its own drawbacks:
Disabled Features on the Router when set to AP Mode | Answer | NETGEAR Support- DRHENDEAug 04, 2023AspirantI have the modem from century link connected to the provided internet, which is DSL , not optical fiber. Although it has a port for the optical fiber internet. I then only have used 1 of the 4 Ethernet ports on the back of the modem to connect the only router, the r9000. I do not use multiple routers, just the provided modem and the R9000 router. If the Centurylink modem is a router as well, then I can agree with you I seem to be using multiple routers. I will provide the model. Number shortly for the Century link modem and Nighthawk router.
I followed the instruction via the app and I get the something went wrong. Hope that clarifies
