Is anyone else having issues connecting to the nighthawk app AND the genie app?

I have no idea what those "issues" might be – you don't say – but I do know that you cannot use both the nighthawk app AND the genie app.
It is one or the other and depends on the firm ware on your Netgear device.
As the C7800 is a cable modem/router, the firmware is in the hands of your Internet service provider. So Netgear cannot provide firmware for you to apply that shifts your C7800 from the Netgear app to the Nighthawk app.
