1. you can't update the firmware on the c6250. On combo device, only the isp can update them. Its an issue that the app knows there's newer firmware but your isp doesn't support it.
2. You can keep using the genie app.
3. I'd recommend using the browser instead of the app. tends to be more stable, more accurate, and has more resources. the app is good for quick checks though.
4. In terms of your speeds, are the 30 mbps over a wired connection? or wireless? if its wireless, is it the 2.4ghz or 5ghz? 2.4ghz is significantly slower and 30mbps is actually reasonable.

In reality this is a cable modem issue.You cannot update standalone cable modems or cable modem/router combos.
You can update "combo" devices for DSL.
If your firmware is outdated, you cannot manually upgrade your cable modem’s or modem router’s firmware. You must contact your Internet service provider (ISP) to upgrade your firmware.
The bottom line is the same, though, firmware updates are in the hands of the ISP.
