Genie App Download and Install failure MAC
I get this error message when I download and try to install the genie app: “NETGEAR_Genie_Installer_2.4.10(2015-10-10_17-15).pkg” can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.

Hi RustyK,
It is the Gatekeeper feature of Mac OS X that is preventing you from installing applications that are not from the Apple store. You may check this link on how to allow applications from other sources to be installed on your Mac OS X device.

Hi DexterJB
The reason, as you mention, is not that OSX is preventing installation of applications that are not from the Apple store, but because by default, Mac OS only allows users to install applications from verified sources. That means NetGear is an unsigned developer for NetGear Genie.
Apps not coming from de Apple store do well if they are signed by an Apple recognized developer. Developers can get a unique Developer ID from Apple and use it to digitally sign their apps. The Developer ID allows Gatekeeper to block apps created by malware developers and verify that apps haven't been tampered with since they were signed. If an app was developed by an unknown developer—one with no Developer ID—or tampered with, Gatekeeper can block the app from being installed.
So the best solution is NetGear ask for a unique Developer ID from Apple and use it to digitally sign their apps.

Just right-click on the app and say open.
