Mac OS 10.12.5 Sierra netgear Genie keeps crashing. Do I really need it?

I am using Genie on my MAC OS Sierra. After firmware update to V1.0.8.34  Genie keeps crashing. Do I really need this interface?

  • Even after reinstalling netgear genie on my iMac, and even after rebooting the router, genie keeps crashing.  So, I think I will only use genie, since it crashes about once every hour or probably more like 3 times an hour, for just checking on connections, etc.  Genie is good I guess, but I am not sure for what if it isn't stable.

Thanks for reply, at least I am not the only one. Bye bye genie.

Just to confirm that Netgear Genie is unstable under the current macos Sierra
(here: on a frehsly set-up Macbook AIr 2017).

As for the question: "do I need it?" -- the issue is that- as I understand it - is that a running Genie is required for legacy USB printers to be served as Airprint printer.

Also, the ReadySHARE Printer Utility Version 2.36 does not work for me (I hoped it would be a functional partial replacement for the crashing Network Genie):

after installing the utility and then configuring the USB printer connected to the router (which is detected OK -- even though the HP F2480 is configured only as generic F2400 printer), submitted print jobs hang forever (the print queue only reports connection to the printer having been detected, but does not progress beyond that).

And comments/advice would be highly welcome!
