I don't use the Genie for much. I prefer the web interface. This is, of course, confusingly called Netgear Genie even if it is completely different.

Hi Michael, Totally agree with you, but for a company such as Netgear to put out a product / or updates with Software so untested & not totally compatable with one of the worlds largest products, and released to Public is not my idea of professionalism plus the not being able to easily get back into the original unit set up,beggars belief. I spent a good part of my working life from the mid 80's checking software prior to release both in the UK and the States. It appears that the race to launch new products prevails, and worry about the complaints and problems for later. Buyers Beware comes to mind. End of this weekends Gripes.

Hi all,
You may follow the temporary work around for this issue.
1. Uninstall the NETGEAR Genie program from the computer/device.
2. Download the previous version (2.4.12) of the NETGEAR Genie.
Download link:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bz-pjmQaYmk6Vk92eE81a20xRjg/view?usp=sharing
3. Install the program and check if it functions correctly.
4. Locate the drivers folder under C:\Program Files\NETGEAR Genie\bin and copy it to the desktop.
5. Download and install the latest version of NETGEAR Genie again using the download link below.
http://netgear.com/home/discover/apps/genie/aspx
6. Look for the same folder under the same location and delete the folder.
7. Replace the folder with the folder that you pasted on the desktop from the working version of NETGEAR Genie.
8. Close the NETGEAR Genie program through the system tray.
9. Re-open the NETGEAR Genie program and check if it works.
10. The version number may display 2.4.12 since it is using the drivers for that version.

Dexter

Dexter, Thanks for your notes, all OK until using the 2nd link http://netgear.com/home/ discover/apps/genie/aspx, which returns. Page not found, any further suggestions please

If the idea is to get the latest version of the Netgear genie, maybe it would work just go to the support pages for your product (or any current product) and get it from there.
Does this work?
http://www.netgear.com/home/discover/apps/genie.aspx
It is the generic genie home page.
Or is it dishing up an older version?

Hi Michael, The idea of Dexter’s post was to go back a few versions of Genie, ie V2.4.12exe, following his suggestions all was going well but from this route, but the final repair link didn’t function correctly. Somehow or the other some life has returned to Routerlogin (reversion as stated earlier) giving me access to a Genie but right now I feel a little uncomfortable on what has or is happening to my settings, Probably earlier setting up fault by me, so for now onwards and upwards to the final resolution.

I realise that this was what Dexter advised.
Your note about the broken link was his reference to where to get the current version of the Netgear Genie.
His link to the latest version of the Netgear genie was broken. The one I provided works. It gets you the latest version of the genie for most current devices.
In other words, I have told you where you can look for the file that you would have got had Dexter's link worked.
Did you try the link I posted? Did you compare it with Dexter's? The two look remarkably similar.
- ERICTOTEJan 17, 2016AspirantHi again Michael, Yes your link worked OK but it did not offer the way to complete what Dexter indicated. It identified that my Router was included on the listing. As I indicated earlier the Routerlogin appears to be available but have not had the time this weekend to thoroughly check it out. It is the retro version he suggested, for any earlier set up errors I may have made etc, snow clearing etc plus family items. I am aware that both links are identical, but so far appear to giving different results. Would expect it is my own finger problems and in time will identify whats happening. Intend giving time to this tomorrow onward's. Will post results when sorted and tested. Thanks again

Dexter's link had nothing to do with the rest of the process. It was there to get you the file you needed. (If you had the latest version of Genie already, you could have skipped that step.)
First you had to download the software. Then you had to follow the rest of the stuff.
After you have retrieved and installed the software:
6. Look for the same folder under the same location and delete the folder. (see step 4)
Those steps are, as you put it, "the way to complete what Dexter indicated". There is no way that he could do that with a link.
Maybe I am explaining this badly although it seems obvious to me. But perhaps someone else could step in with an even simpler explanation. Or just wait for Dexter to get back to work.

I tried this twice and it did not work. I still am getting the Win10 error. I give up on using it, however, I miss it!

Is that the one we find here?
genie Landing Page | Apps | Discover | Home | NETGEAR
If not, how about a link?
- michaelkenwardMay 17, 2016Guru - Experienced User
Answering my own question.
That page delivers 2.4.15.7.
So, rather than sending us all over the place in search for the file, a link?
- Angel4autismMay 18, 2016Tutor
Yes, Link, Please. TY

Surprising that a moderator lobs in that idea without bothering to provide a link to the file.
Does anyone else know where we can lay our hands on version 2.4.26 of the NETGEAR Genie?
I still have 2.4.20.

The genie has just offered me an update to version 2.4.26 of the NETGEAR Genie.
Surprising that it took some days to land.

When I downloaded Genie in Win 10 it never worked and each time I tried it said Win 10 cannot find a solution will get back to you when it does. So, do I have to download the Genie again? I finally uninstalled it , in disgust! Can someone please provide a link moderator so I can get the correct verison.
- michaelkenwardMay 19, 2016Guru - Experienced User
I'm afraid we haven't had any response to requests for a live link to 2.4.26. The one I found for my hardware is version 2.4.15.7.
If you still have the old version, you could install that and try to force it to find an update. That is how I got the new version.
Alternatively, any old version might provoke the genie to update itself.
It took a couple of sessions with the genie, but magically today it updated itself.

Thank you. I will try that! :smileyhappy: it would be nice if Dexter would supply a link. ;)

I just tried this on two of my other PCs. One of them eventually offered the upgrade.
Unfortunately, when I tried to update it, the genie complained of network connection issues. There are no issues. It works just fine with everything else.

I have just had one of those "why am I being so thick?" events.
I have just discovered how to force the Genie to get the updates for you.
- Launch the Netgear Genie.
- Minimise it.
- Right click the icon in the Windows Notification area.
- Click upgrade
All being well, it will work.
It did on one of my PCs. The other one complained that there was something wrong with the file.

Tried the right click method, it works !
Since I was one of the early whiners, I'll accept that this topic is closed.
But, the window is still not compatable with a 65" 4K TV .. it's still tiny.

Used the link provided. It downloaded then I had to update, it is now working fine.
Thank you.

Oh dear. Another piece of software stuck in the 20th century with its screen resolution.
Glad the update worked.
