To all who have had trouble running NetgearGenie.app after installation on a Mac. Problem being that Mac OS says that app file is damaged or such. Support just sent me a solution. Here it is.
Running the NetgearGenie.app after installation on your Mac from a non administrative user fails because the OS apparently doesn't see a read property for the app for the running account. The fix is to go into the NetgearGenie.app's Mac information window (from Finder, do Get Info for the app) and unlock the info window, then add the user account from which you are running (click on + at bottom of "sharing and permissions" section of the window and then select account name to add to the Netgear.app's sharing and permissions section). It should be "Read only". I don't no why the "everyone" read only permission doesn't work, but adding the running account name allows the Mac OS to open and run NetgearGenie.app. I have done this on both my iMac connected directly to router and my macbook connected via wifi. Both from nonadministrative accounts. I have not tried running NetgearGenie.app from my administrative account, so may have to specifically add the administrative account name while running from the administrative account.
Hope this helps everyone who has had the same trouble I have had.

Hi BobbyAHorton,
You can try using the download link below and see if the file will allow you to successfully install the program on your Mac. Also, please try using another Mac computer if it is available for us to isolate the issue.

DexterJB,
I tried the link you provided on my MacBook running 10.10.5. Same results. It says it installed successfully in an install window, but a finder window "tmp" is also open over the Success window that has two files listed. There are two apps installed, one is the NetGenie app of 0 bytes, and another "Netupdate.app" with about 300 bytes. Both, when clicked on, respond with "damaged file". So, something is not working.
I did find that I can go to www.routerlogin.net and see and control most of what it appears that NetGenie will accomplish. So, not sure that I want to spend much more time with getting a running version of NetGenie. Still not impressed. If you want me to try something else, I am game, I will capture all of what happens in more detail. But, if you have a Mac running 10.10.5, you should see the same problem. Note, I am using Netgear's N600 Wireless Dual Band Router model WNDR3400v3.

Hi BobbyAHorton,
The latest version of the NETGEAR Genie app for Mac should work. However, for isolation, please try using another version using the download link below.

Dexter,
This installation dmg results exactly like before two tries.
It goes through the installation process, and ends up with a Finder window overlaying the Successfully installed window. The overlaying Finder window is displaying the following folder: "com.netgear.netgearGenie.NETGEARGenie.pkg.ld3mci", and it is empty. I have a window capture PDF of the Finder window, if you want me to email it to you. The NETGEARGenie.app that is installed has Zero bytes size. And when trying to start the app, the following error message is displayed: "You can’t open the application “NETGEARGenie.app” because it may be damaged or incomplete."
So, I do not want to spend any more time troubleshooting this problem. If you find the problem through your own testing, then shoot me a private message and I will try it. But this is the third try you requested and I don't really care at this point if NETGEARGenie ever runs. - BobbyAHortonOct 27, 2015Guide
Dexter, Here is the install log from my iMac running Yosemite 10.10.5. You can see that it appears that a number of files do not exist. I don't know what the installation log should look like. But, it may be trying to update an existing Netgeargenie.app that doesn't exist, because it never installed correctrly. Anyway, pass this on to the Netgeargenie.app programmers.

Running Mac OS 10.9.5 from a 2013 iMac, I don't get an app installed or any files. I get the "successfully installed" window, and then it changes my desktop picture to the Apple default -- bizarre! But I do not have any new files on my computer. Only the .dmg installer that I downloaded.

John-Baltimore, did Netgear send you a solution? They have suggested a couple different netgeargenie install dmg's to download. None of them fixed the problem I have, which is the same as you had.

I have the same issue. Netgear Genie won't run. Installer reports successful install but opens tmp folder and the app won't run. It looks like the installer crashes during installation.
Please help.

DexterJB, and others concerning NetgearGenie not installing correctly on my Macs running OSx 10.10.5.
My problem got updated to NETGEAR support and they have assigned a NETGEAR Support Case number to it and have been in contact with me to obtain more details about my LAN configuration and the Modem and Netgear Router information. I have just sent them the information that they requested. Florence, Expert ID 8330, NETGEAR L2 Support Expert, sent me a message this morning that said she would try to coordinate with you, DexterJB. You may want to let her know who else has been having a simular problem with installing NetgearGenie on their Mac computers.
One other point. By using http://www.routerlogin.net and submitting the user name "admin" and password that I changed from the default, I can see a web based NetGear Genie display and control various Router functions. l assume that the netgearGenie.app provides the same information and similar controls in a more user friendly manner. I have downloaded the netgearGenie user manual. - galychanynDec 03, 2015Aspirant
I have opened a support ticket and talked to a rep. He told me it is better to use routlogin.net since Genie has limited functionality. So, I wouldn't miss it too much. Another issue is the ReadyShare utility for printer sharing. It also doesn't work. As it was mentioned in another thread, they need Apple to release some source code in order to fix it. Sounds weird.
- DexterJBDec 05, 2015NETGEAR Moderator
Hi BobbyAHorton,
Florence and I have been in contact and discussed this issue. We are trying to compile the necessary information for us to properly escalate the case and address it.
The web based NETGEAR Genie actually provides you with more control of the router settings compared to the application. You can use that as well in managing the settings of your router.

While I can control all the router settings I want from the router firmware or http://www.routerlogin.net/index.htm the real function I want and cant get from the router but only from the genie app is airprint functionality on a mac which is connected to an old non airprint printer. Do we have an update date for the fix?
