I'm also experiencing problems with the remote management utility in the new Nighthawk app and cannot remotely manage my R7000 (which I checked to be sure has the latest firmware).
After doing the initial remote management setup in the Nighthawk app while at home and connected locally to my R7000, I thought I was all set. After just going into the Nighthawk app and selecting the 'Connect Remotely' option, I get taken to a page listing my R7000 and it reports it as 'Disconnected'. I know this is untrue because I'm watching live streamed footage from my Nest cams as I write this post.
What do I need to do to make the remote management functionality work in the Nighthawk app as it used to in the Genie app?

How do I enable or disable remote access on my router using the Nighthawk app?
Once paired, and when away and opening the Nighthawk App it will fail on the local network, and then offer a [Connect Remotely] button.
