Nighthawk R7800 - Genie App issues like everyone else can't login to open dns via desktop 2017

I tried with no luck to make this work when I bought the router.  Now it's more important that I get this working.  Has Netgear finally corrected this issue that everyone has been having?   It will not let me connect to OpenDNS via my ethernet wired desktop.  The open DNS account is fine, I can login wirectly via their website perfectly.  I have had hit and miss (actually I was able to connect 1 time...with bad performance) connection with my Samsung Galaxy 6 android.  Technically, I was able to get it 1 time and enable controls and then it wouldn't let me in again. There are a million threads on this and I am as frustrated (with buyers remorse) as everyone else.

 

1) I want to use Genie App on my desktop. (Windows 7 64 bit) Ethernet connected. Can I do this? 

2) I have the Open DNS acct open and rolling.

3) I don't want to have to use my phone.  

 

Should I just give up and throw this router in the garbage or is there hope this year to make it work?
