A few thoughts.
Did you tell the phone to forget its old connection to the router?
Was it just the SSID that you changed? Same password?
At what stage does the message appear?
I this a local connection to the router, or remote (Anywhere access?
Connecting the app to the router goes through several stages:
- Connect the mobile to the router's wifi
- Login to the Anywhere Access cloud account
- Login to the router's "admin" credentials
What firmware version do you have on the router?
A number is more useful than "the latest". There may be newer versions, or "hot fixes", that do not show up if you check for new firmware in the browser interface.
If there is one it might also help if you told people the make and model number of the modem/gateway/ONT that sits between this router and the Internet. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?
I ask because a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting.

I didn't tell the phone to forget the original connection, but I have now tried that and it is still not working. I have also tried changing the MAC and turning off randomization and that didn't work.
I have R6400v2
Firmware version v1.0.4.128_10.0.104
It is happening at the stage when I am logging into router's 'admin' credentials.
I believe this would be considered a local connection.
The modem is not a router. I have used the app on the phone with no problem prior to changing both the SSID and password.
Any help is appreciated.

You will get that question regardless of the connection, local or cloud.
You do have to set up the link to Anywhere Access with a local wifi connection. Only then will you be able to get in from a remote Internet sessionvia Netgear's cloud.
The modem is not a router. I have used the app on the phone with no problem prior to changing both the SSID and password.I have lost count of how many people make that claim only to be proved wrong. Don't expect informed responses if you don't want to name the modem.
You may be correct. We just need to rule out other possibilities.

Looks like a standard cable modem-only box. But, from some of the pictures, with weird LAN ports on the back.
