I didn't tell the phone to forget the original connection, but I have now tried that and it is still not working. I have also tried changing the MAC and turning off randomization and that didn't work.
I have R6400v2
Firmware version v1.0.4.128_10.0.104
It is happening at the stage when I am logging into router's 'admin' credentials.
I believe this would be considered a local connection.
The modem is not a router. I have used the app on the phone with no problem prior to changing both the SSID and password.
Any help is appreciated.

You will get that question regardless of the connection, local or cloud.
You do have to set up the link to Anywhere Access with a local wifi connection. Only then will you be able to get in from a remote Internet sessionvia Netgear's cloud.

I have lost count of how many people make that claim only to be proved wrong. Don't expect informed responses if you don't want to name the modem.
You may be correct. We just need to rule out other possibilities.
