R7000 Router - how do I reboot from app if offline
For some reason, my Nighthawk router drops off periodically. I have tried unsuccessfully to use my Nighthawk phone app to manually reboot, but there is no option for that - it just says that my rout...
If the router is offline, how do you expect it to communicate with the app?
Also, most routers shouldn't "drop off" periodically. I'd be focused on that versus how to "offline reboot" a device.
What firmware is on the R7000? It isn't known for the best firmware. The agreed upon stable/decent version so far is 1.0.9.42.
You might try installing that over a hardwired connection, factory reset the router, and then manually reinstall it. This tends to have the best results with the R7000. I'd also disable auto-updates.
I am sorry but I have to agree with the poster here.
Of course the router doesn't need to have internet access in order to communicate with the Nighthawk app, Thats what a LAN (local area network) is used for.
The only reason netgear uses this "create account/login account" scheme is because they want your user statistics/data for whatever reason when in fact the app can talk directly to the router just fine using the local network.
If remote access to the router is warranted then openvpn which actually is already built-in to the router can be employed.
