Be warned that it is a rar file, a sort of nerd's zip file that you have to unpack before you can install it.

Oh so true, but I fear that your "non-technical folks" bit may do yourself a disservice. Netgear seems to think the genie is too complicated and wants us all to use mobile devices to manage things.
