Just found out that i cannot use my nighthawk without buying a subscription.
what a money grab. Greedy suckers.
Sad That I had To Go to this extent to get it to work. Good thing i AM oLd And cranky With plenty of time To waste.

Nope.
You can use your unnamed Nighthawk device without paying another penny. Just set it up following the instructions.
Visit the support pages:
Support | NETGEAR
Look for the model number on the label on the device.
Begin with the Quick Start/Installation Guide.The only things you can opt to pay for are add on services like parental controls and added security through Bitdefender. Most of us get by without those,
If this is a new Nighthawk device, then you get 90 days of free support to help you to set it up. After the 90 days you do have to pay for continued support but this place is free.
If you make the unwise move of doing a web search for "Netgear support" you run the risk of landing on a page that has nothing to do with Netgear. Contact them and some crook will try to sell you stuff. Tell them to go away.

Who knows what you were doing and where it went wrong.
I just wanted to correct your erroneous idea that just using a Nighthawk device needs a subscription.
I wouldn't want anyone to get sucked down the same rabbit hole.
I hope you didn't part with any money.
